Experiment: Zeeman Effect
To determine Bohr's Magneton
A cadium vapour lamp is placed between the pole shoes of a strong magnet. When a magnetic field is applied, the red spectral line of the cadmium is split up into three lines (normal Zeeman effect) and the green spectral line is split up into seven lines (abnormal Zeeman effect). Depending on the moving direction, these lines turn out to be differently polarised. As the wavelengths of the lines differ only slightly from each other, a Fabry-Perot interferometer
