Experiment: Gyroscope with 3 Axes
To determine the Moment of Inertia of the Gyroscope Disc and to verify the Gyroscope Laws
The gyroscope disc which can rotate around 3 axes is wound up with the aid of a cord. The masses attached to the gyroscope axis exert a torque forcing the gyroscope to carry out precession movements. The influence of the rotational frequency and of the torque on the precession is measured. The dependence of the nutation frequency on the rotational speed can be verified, too.
If a second disc is attached to the first one and if this disc is caused to rotate at the same speed but in the opposite sense, the gyroscope characteristics are cancelled out.
