To determine the Excitation Energy of Mercury Atoms through an Electron Impact

Accelerated ectrons collide with mercury atoms thus exciting these atoms.
The excitation energy corresponds to the loss of kinetic energy of the impact electrons.
A current-voltage curve thus shows minima the spacing between which can be taken to determine the excitation energy.
