Gay-Lussacs Law of Volumes
Gay-Lussac's Law of Volumes states that gases always react with each other at fixed volume ratios. The validity of this law can be demonstrated in a very clear and impressive way using the oxyhydrogen eudiometer shown here. For this purpose, mixtures of hydrogen and oxygen are injected into the eudiometer at different volume ratios and caused to react in an explosive way. In doing so it can be shown that the two gases always react with each other at the ratio 2:1 (H2:O2).
