This educationally vivid complete experimental set-up of a gas chromatograph makes it possible to separate substances which are highly volatile at up to 100°C. A butane mixture is a suitable choice here, for example.
System components include such elements as the carrier gas supply, flow measurement, separation column with stationary phase, temperature control system, thermal conductivity detector and recorder. All of the components of this open system are easily recognised, enabling a clear explanation of the operating principle. To display the signal measured, the Cobra3 Chem unit is used with this set-up.
