Resolution of forces on an inclined plane

Principle

The students should - experimentally - gain knowledge of the resolution of the weight (force) F_g of a car on an inclined plane into a normal force F_n ,acting perpendicular to the track, and a downhill force F_h ,acting parallel to the plane. The measurements should be carried out for at least two different heights of the track and with different additional masses m_a on the car.

In addition, the students should determine the geometric dimensions of the setup and determine the normal and downhill forces from the measured lengths. Doing this will clarify the correspondence between the measured values and the geometric relationships.

Finally, the resolution of the forces on the inclined plane should be performed with the aid of force parallelograms.

Task

What forces pull a car downhill?

There is a car on an inclined plane.

You will determine the downhill force which acts parallel to the plane and the normal force which acts perpendicular.
