Detection of discontinuities

Principle

Various ultrasonic locating techniques are used on a test body with a variety of differing discontinuities. The body is first tested by scanning through it and an investigation is made to determine which techniques are best for detecting which types of faults. Afterwards, signal to noise ratio is measured at each of the discontinuities, once with an angle testing probe and once with a normal one. A discussion of the results will then follow with the aim of selecting the right locating technique for a specific test exercise.
