The behaviour of gamma radiation in a magnetic field

Product No: P1305700

Principle

This experiment should be connected with the determination of the deflection of beta radiation in a magnetic field. Conclusions on the physical nature of gamma radiation can be drawn from the result of the experiment, that their radiation intensity is not influenced by a magnetic field. The recorded count rates are subject to a large random counting uncertainty, because of the low activity of the source of radiation and the low efficiency of the counter for gamma rays. In order to avoid this leading students to wrong conclusions, the random errors of the average count rates of the two measurement series should be calculated and used to determine if the count rates with and without the influence of the magnetic field fall outside of it.

Task

To examine the deflection of beta radiation in a magnetic field.
