Layer thickness determination

Product No: P1306100

Principle

The method of determining layer thickness with beta back scattering is particularly suitable for double-layer systems in which the two components differ sufficiently in their atomic numbers. For example, the lacquer coating on metals can be controlled and corrected during production. Layers of thickness up to half the radius of beta particles in the material can be determined. With thicker material, the back-scattered electrons, which have already suffered a loss of energy in the scattering process, are completely absorbed in the surface layer.

Task

To use beta radiation to determine the thickness of a sheet of paper placed on a lead plate.
