Function and Applications

Experimental set for student experiments to observe thermal insulation propertiesof different wall insulating materials and to study the concepts of thermal insulation, thermal conductivity and thermal capacity.

Benefits

Other materials than the included, e. g. feathers, wool, etc. can also be investigated.
Wet wooden or stone walls can be simulated with wet saw dust or sand.

Equipment and technical data

The test unit contains two insulating vessels consisting each of an exterior and an interior glass vessel, a base plate and a covering ring of insulating and waterproof polyurethane foam, as well as a stopper with hole to take a thermometer.
The following materials are supplied as filling for the annular space between the two glasswalls:- Styrofoam (insulating material)- mineral wool (insulating material)- saw dust (wooden wall)- sand (stone wall)- aluminium foil (metal door and window frames).
The insulating vessels and the materials are contained in a storage box.
Exterior dimensions of the insulating vessel: diameter: 80 mm; height: 160 mm; width of the annular space: approx. 25 mm.
