Pascal's vase apparatus

Product No: 02638-00

Function and Applications

To demonstrate that pressure on the bottom only depends on the height of the liquid column but not on the shape of the vessels (hydrostatic paradox), for the quantitative determination of the hydrostatic pressure, for the investigation of the linear relation between pressure and filling height. Bottom pressure in the inserted vessels filled with liquid deforms a highly elastic rubber diaphragm; this deformation is transmitted to the measuring pointer.

Equipment and technical data

  • The deviation can be compensated by means of a mobile slotted weight.
  • Mass and distance of the weight from the axis of rotation (centimetre subdivision of the pointer) allow for the quantitative determination of the change of pressure.
  • A second pointer, which can be displaced vertically, allows visualising the filling level of the vessel.
  • Heights of vessels: 250 mm.
  • Interior tube diameter, bottom: 26 mm.
  • Length of measuring pointer: 210 mm.
  • Total height: 350 mm.
  • Base plate surface: 280 × 110 mm.
