The combination of basic sets an extension sets fits to various application of ultrasound.

Ultrasounds are used in a multiple number of applications in different fields, whereas two basic techniques are used.

Echography: an ultrasonic pulse is sent through an object. The observed echo (intensity and time delay) is used to analyse static phenomena in various fields. In medicine, echography is used for tumor diagnostics, cardiography and ophthalmology. In material sciences, engineering and industry non destructive testing of metals, concrete, wood and composites, as well as level measurement in process control are major applications.

Tomography: 3D-images of objects are generated while moving automatically an object on a static ultrasonic device or by moving the ultrasonic device on a static object. It is used for inspections in industry as well as in medical diagnostics.
