The motion of the water wheel was used in the past mainly in mills, for example, to grind grain.

With a water wheel you could also turn a dynamo. The electrical energy can be used to power different motors, for example, pumps.

Today, huge turbines are used to generate electric energy in hydroelectric plants.

Benefits

  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with a total of 17 experiments for Renewable Energy Basics and Heat energy
  • Experiment offers a good introduction into the topic of renewable energies
  • The experiment can be applied in a multidisciplinary manner

Tasks

  1. What happens with a water wheel when water flows over it?

Learning objectives

  • Water wheel
