Principle

This experiments makes average demands on the experimental abilities of the students. It provides them with essential insights into an optical device with which most will be familiar. Judging from past experience, students will be sufficiently motivated to investigate the construction and function of a camera.

Confirmation of the validity of the equations 1/f = 1/g + 1/b and B/G = b/g is primarily intended to confirm facts already learned. In order to save time, this part of the experiment can be left out as it is not essential for the understanding of the camera.

Benefits

  • Multifunctional light box - All-in-one: Can be used for geometric optics on the table, colour mixing and on an optical bench
  • Extension with others sets at anytime, no additional light sources needed, recognition value for students

Tasks

In this experiment you will construct a model of a camera and investigate:

  1. the dependence of the image size on the distance of the object from the camera,
  2. the significance of the diaphragm for image quality,
  3. the dependence of the image size on the focal length of the objective, and
  4. the validity of the equations 1/f = 1/g + 1/b and B/G = b/g.
