Principle

In this experiment the reduction of copper oxide to copper is examined (reduction as an inverse process of oxidation). Students know that many oxides (caused by a thermal reaction of atmospheric oxygen with an element) can not be decomposed thermally in a simple manner to the pure element.  But these oxides can be reduced with the help of reducing agents (for example, carbon) to the corresponding element.

Learning objectives

  • Reduction reaction
  • Preparation of copper

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for all Inorganic Chemistry matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
