Rusting- "slow combustion"

Article no: P7154300
Principle

Many students combine the term "oxidation" with a combustion reaction. This student experiment explains that oxidation also proceed "unspectacular" over longer periods. This experiment shows iron wool corrodes in moist air, it rusts. Rusting is "slow oxidation".

Learning objectives

  • Slow oxidation reaction
  • Rusting of metals
  • Corroding of iron

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for all Inorganic Chemistry matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
