Uniform linear motion with Cobra SMARTsense

Article no: P1003569

Principle
The measuring carriage is driven by an electric motor and travels at constant speed over the road. Correspondingly, the same ratio is always determined with the same speed setting of the measuring carriage.
Benefits

  • Especially understandable and didactically prepared description of the experiment (relevance to everyday life, etc.) including protocol questions.
  • Future-oriented teaching: Integration into digital science lessons with tablets or smartphones.
  • Increased motivation of students by using the intuitive measureAPP.
  • Increased media competence.

Tasks

  • measurement of the time required by the trolley for a certain distance, using two light barriers at the beginning and end of the respective distance.
  • Calculation of the speed from the measured time between the interruption of one and the other light barrier and the distance travelled.
  • Creation and discussion of the path-time diagram.

Learning objectives
In this experiment, the students should learn the concepts of linear and uniform motion. For the time being, the concept of speed is introduced somewhat vaguely as a ratio and is determined experimentally by the students from the distance and time measurement of a measuring carriage with drive passing two light barriers. From the measurement data, the pupils should recognize that the speed within the measurement path is constant in this experiment and therefore the term "uniform" applies. In addition, the students should get to know the path-time diagram and in particular recognize that the slope of the graph reflects the speed.
