Millikan apparatus

Article no: 09070-00

Function and Application

The Millikan apparatus is used for the precise determination of the elementary charge of electrons.
Using oil droplets suspended in an electric field, the forces acting on individual droplets can be measured, allowing the electron charge to be determined experimentally.

Benefits

  • Easy handling due to a clearly structured experimental setup
  • Direct visualization of the forces acting on oil droplets enables intuitive learning
  • Compatible with standardized power supplies and measuring instruments

Technical Specification

  • Millikan capacitor with oil atomizer and specimen holder on a metal base plate with support rod
  • Illumination unit with halogen lamp 6 V / 10 W and light guide
  • Microscope with eyepiece micrometer
  • Capacitor plate spacing: 2.5 mm
  • Maximum capacitor voltage: 500 V DC
  • Total magnification: 100×
  • Base plate dimensions (mm): 140 × 60
