Switching on coils with Cobra SMARTsense

Article no: P6301469

Principle

In this experiment, self-induction is investigated - a property of coils in which a voltage is generated by changing the current. This counteracts the change in current and leads to a time delay when switching on and off.

Tasks

  1. What effect does a coil have when closing a DC circuit?
  2. Investigate the voltage across a resistor connected in series with a coil.

Learning objective

The aim of the experiment is to learn that when a coil is switched on, a self-induction voltage is created which counteracts the increase in current.

Advantages

  1. Simple setup in just a few minutes.
  2. High resolution data acquisition (up to 10 kHz).
  3. Improved media competence.
  4. Safe student power supply (RiSU-compliant).
