Genetic fingerprinting Principle This experiments allows to simulate the method of DNA fingerprinting and uses a DNA fingerprint to identify the offender in a hypothetical crime. After separation of a given DNA by using gel electrophoresis and staining the DNA samples the students can compare the pattern of fragments on the gel with other DNA samples and match the DNA to the offender. Benefits - Complete equipment set which also contains all required consumables
- Consumables can be purchased as a replacement kit
- Ready to use: DNA fragment samples are already predigested
- Easy to use: detailed experiment guide
Tasks - Casting agarose gels
- Preparing samples for electrophoresis
- Performing electrophoresis
- Staining the samples and analysing the banding pattern
Learning objectives - DNA fingerprinting
- Electrophoresis
- Banding pattern
- DNA profile
- Forensics
- PCR
