Finely atomized oil droplets are introduced into an electric field and brought into a state of suspension. By analyzing the forces acting on the droplets, the charge of individual droplets — and therefore the elementary charge — can be accurately determined. The experimental setup provides a clear and practical implementation of one of the most important experiments in physics and is ideally suited for teaching, training, and laboratory education.
