Image construction for a convex mirror

Article no: P1064200

Principle

The aim of this experiment is the experimental determination of the intersection of selected light beams which hit a convex mirror and the image construction which follows from that. In a preliminary experiment the characteristics of the mirror image are determined. So it is possible to compare both experimental results later. The experiment is very demanding on the students' required experimental proficiency and on the knowledge gained by performing it. There are no real images; the intersection of the backward extensions of the reflected light beams lies behind the convex mirror. Thus, it is possible to illustrate the character of virtual images to the students and to deepen their knowledge of virtual images on plane mirrors.

Benefits

  • Multifunctional light box - All-in-one: Can be used for geometric optics on the table, colour mixing and on an optical bench
  • Extension with others sets at anytime, no additional light sources needed, recognition value for students

Tasks

Why do you see yourself smaller when looking into a silver ball?

  1. Investigate the properties of a mirror image for a convex mirror.
  2. Investigate image formation in a convex mirror using selected light beams.
