Root with root-hair cells

Principle

The roots of plants have a very important function to fulfill. Water and nutrient salts have to be taken up from the soil. This is done by the root's trichoblasts (hair cells). They develop from protrusions of the root epidermis (= rhizodermis) which produces a considerable enlargement of the exchange surface. Where do we find these trichoblasts? As the plant grows its root steadily penetrates into deeper layers of soil. How is the root tip structured to tolerate these forces?
