Hydrostatic pressure measurement

Principle

The hydrostatic pressure in a liquid can be measured with the bottom pressure device. The pressure on the bottom of the device is transferred to a pointer. It is shown that the hydrostatic pressure is only dependent on the height of the protruding water column and not on the shape of the vessel or its filling volume.

 

Tasks

  1. Determine the hydrostatic pressure of a liquid as a function of the filling height of a container.
  2. Determine the hydrostatic pressure of a liquid for different containers at a constant filling height

 

Learning objectives

The experiment shows that the hydrostatic pressure increases linearly with the height of the liquid column when the density of the liquid and the gravitational force remain constant. The pressure depends solely on the height of the liquid column and not on the shape of the container.
