Principle

The separation of liquid mixtures can be achieved by a simple distillation.  In this experiment a liquid mixture of water and ethanol is distilled by using a distillation column. Various fractions of the distillate are obtained with the help of a rotatable receiver. The composition (ethanol and water) of the individual fractions is determined by a measurement of the density.
