The acidic character of carboxcyclic (alkane) acids

Article no: P7172800
Principle

It is assumed that the typical reactions of inorganic acids are known. Should they have not have been discussed yet, sulphuric acid or hydrochloric acid can be used in parallel tests, to demonstrate that there are no principle differences between organic and inorganic acids.

Learning objectives

  • Acetic acid and formic acid are examples of carboxylic acids, and react with metals under the formation of hydrogen. They are neutralized by bases, forming salts.
  • The carboxylic acids show the same reaction behaviour as inorganic acids.

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for the topic Organic Chemistry matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
