Principle

In this experiment, the behavior of an overvoltage protection circuit is investigated. A voltage is applied to a light bulb and gradually increased. If the voltage exceeds the threshold value of 6 V, the circuit automatically switches from the light bulb circuit to a circuit with a resistor in order to protect the more sensitive component.

Tasks

  1. Build the circuit according to the instructions.
  2. Program the SMARTsense code so that it serves as overvoltage protection.
  3. Test the circuit and make any additional settings to the SMARTsense Code.

Learning objectives

The students should learn how an overvoltage protection circuit works and be introduced to programming with the Cobra SMARTsense Code.

Benefits

  • No additional cable connections required between the components - clearer and faster setup
  • Contact reliability thanks to components that can be interlocked like a puzzle
  • Hard gold-plated, corrosion-resistant contacts
  • Double learning success: electrical circuit diagram visible on the top and real components on the bottom
