Principle

In the household, electrical energy is used for cooking, heating of service water with the help of instantaneous water heaters or for electric heating. Many electrical appliances become warm during operation, i.e. conversion of electrical energy into heat energy often takes place unintentionally. In the experiment, water is heated in a calorimeter by means of a heating coil. The relationship between heating power, electrical work (required electrical energy) and temperature increase is investigated.

Benefits

  • Part of a system solution - easily expandable for further experiments
  • Simple teaching by using the demo board physics
  • Clear test execution by using ADM3 multimeters

Learning objectives

  • The students learn how a calorimeter works.
  • The students observe the relationship between heating power, electrical work and temperature increase.
