Function and Applications
When filled with an electrolyte solution, it is used to connect two galvanic half-cells. Filter paper plugs, which are stuffed into the ends of the tube, or clay sticks, which are attached to the glass tube with a piece of tubing, can serve as closures and diaphragms. The upper opening can be sealed with a blind cap.
