Principle
Milk contains lactose (milk sugar), which can be extracted from the filtrate after precipitating out proteins. Lactose is a disaccharide of glucose and galactose. Lactose can be detected by the red colour it gives with ammonia in alkaline solution. Lactose is added to baby foods.
