Principle

In a series connection, the voltages of the batteries add up, while the current remains essentially the same. In a parallel connection, the voltage stays the same as with a single battery, but more current can be delivered or the energy can be provided for a longer time.

This experiment investigates this difference by measuring voltage and current.

Tasks

  1. First, build a simple circuit with one battery and measure the voltage and the current.
  2. Extend the circuit to a series connection of two batteries and measure the voltage and the current again.
  3. Now build a parallel connection of two batteries and measure the voltage and the current.

Learning objective

Students investigate how voltage and current change when two batteries are connected in series or in parallel.

Benefits

  • High-contrast printing of electrical symbols on the top side.
  • Minimal preparation time and easy execution of the experiment thanks to digital experiment instructions.
