Principle
Detergents reduce the surface tension of water. Their properties result from their molecular construction, with a long unpolar chain and a short, polar part. Explain how surface tension originates, the terms lipophilic, hydrophilic and the construction of other surface-active agents (tensides). Some specific reactions of the detergent stearic acid are examined in this experiment.

Learning objectives

  •  Properties of detergents

Benefits

  • Easy teaching and efficient learning by using interactive experimentation PHYWE-Software
  • Experiment is part of a complete solution set with experiments for the topic Organic Chemistry matched with international curriculum: all topics are covered
